That wasn't the only reason why Lady Gaga was a trending topic though, so let's take a quick look at what fans were saying about the chart-topping artist on Twitter. 'The way Gaga is trending and for what,' tweeted one excited fan. The latest tweets from @ladygaga. While Gaga is clearly the ultimate fame monster, other stars with impressive Twitter fan bases include Katy Perry (15,777,783 followers), Shakira and Rihanna. President Obama, whose Google search volume has far surpassed that of Gaga, trails far behind the pop megastar on Twitter, with a mere 12,854,094 followers.
Celebrity
Mother Monster has been up to nothing BUT good lately. Performing in not one but *two* Las Vegas residencies, whilst also casually releasing her own cosmetics line, Haus Laboratories, it’s safe to say Gags is killin’ it. Considering she was captial-B busy, just a few months ago, she went through a Twitter drought, firing off just a tweet or two every couple weeks. In order to keep updated on my fave, I of course turned her Twitter notifications. One tweet notification every two weeks? That, I can manage.
But then, one day, it happened. Lady Gaga, pop star, sometime jazz singer, fashion idol, cosmetics mogul, gay *icon*, tweeted a meme:

It’s a known fact that Gaga is historically a *very* proud Italian, to say the absolute least. Just search “Gaga Italian” on YouTube to watch countless compilations of Lady Gaga talking about her Italian pride.
But a meme?! Seeing Gaga tweet a meme gives me the same feeling I get whenever my dad tries to describe a GIF to me in person (“Have you seen that G.I.F. of the dog, and he goes over to the window, and then there’s another dog and…”). Cringe. But Gaga wasn’t stopping with just one random meme, and has been sharing Twitter riddles ever since.
Here are some of my recent faves that Lady Gaga has shared on social media that make us wonder if she’s truly trolling us—like, is she trying to be funny, or is she poking fun at old people who try to sound hip? Scientists may never know. And please keep in mind that these are REAL TWEETS from Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta a.k.a. Lady Gaga that do in fact still exist on Twitter Dot Com.

I mean, she’s performing in Las Vegas! I’m not sure whether she’s talking about how beat her makeup is, or just how cinched her waist is. But regardless, do we know for sure that she looked good at the exact time of this tweet? Of corset! (See what I did there?)

Me: No I’ll just vape.

OK, hold the “Telephone.”
Lady Gaga is a genuine punk in every sense of the word. As modern as she may be, I find it very difficult to believe that she would even consider trading a classically badass (if bad for your health) cigarette for a dorky vape. This could be a tepid attempt to stop kids from smoking? Hmm. Will have to get back to you on that one.
I’m calling my next album ADELE.
— Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) October 1, 2019
*Sigh* This one just hurt. Not only is she teasing about her next album that seems eons away, she’s reminding us that Adele has not released an album since 2015 (four years y’all). She KNEW what she was doing with this one!

Oh, um….what? This definitely is not a meme, this is a Sanskrit prayer used to close traditional yoga practices. The phrase translates roughly to “May all beings everywhere be free and happy.” I somehow don’t think this means we’re getting a Hindi rendition of “Born This Way.” That being said, ’80s Bollywood disco producer (wild phrase, eh?) Bappi Lahiri recently stated in an interview that the two of them have *allegedly* recorded two songs together in a mix of Hindi and English. Lady Gaga has not yet commented on this possible collaboration, so don’t get your hopes up just yet.

Here, Gaga has responded to YouTube personality Alexis Zall, with a literal answer to a joke. This tweet is either entirely genius, or completely not—I still can’t decide.

Simple, yet effective. This is *truly* a political statement. 280 characters to capture how we all feel about the state of the world? How about one, hun!

Guess we know what her favourite holiday is not? But Gaga—Halloween is Gay Christmas! This feels sacrilegious and like a betrayal TBH.

Okay hear me out. New album title? I would listen the absolute *heck* out of an album named Chinese Broccoli.

So in conclusion, I have no idea whether Gaga is seriously tweeting these things, or whether she is just having the time of her life. Either way, I know I’m *never* turning her tweet notifications off.

When it comes to major events, Lady Gaga usually trots out some sort of wild head-turning outfit. That’s not always the case though, like today, when she sang the National Anthem during Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ inauguration. She did find a way to put her own spin on the formal occasion, though, by wearing a giant golden broach as part of her otherwise tame outfit. After the ceremony, Gaga took to Twitter to give some backstory about the large ornamental piece.
Sharing a photo of it, Gaga explained what it depicts and her reasoning for choosing it, writing, “A dove carrying an olive branch. May we all make peace with each other.”

Ahead of her performance, she also took a moment to share a statement on social media, writing, “Singing our National Anthem for the American People is my honor. I will sing during a ceremony, a transition, a moment of change — between POTUS 45 and 46. For me, this has great meaning. My intention is to acknowledge our past, be healing for our present, and passionate for a future where we work together lovingly. I will sing to the hearts of all people who live on this land. Respectfully and kindly, Lady Gaga.”
